DESCRIPTION
Royal jelly is known for its rich source of amino acids, carbohydrates, proteins, fatty acids, along with B-vitamins. Hence it is used as a general health tonic; for fighting the effects of stress and aging; and for additional immune support.
Biochemically speaking, royal jelly is very complex. It contains approximately 12% protein, 5-6% lipids, 12-15% carbohydrates and around 15% aspartic acid, which is important for tissue growth, muscle and cell regeneration. Its B-vitamin content is high, and with 17 amino acids, including all 8 essential amino acids, sugars, sterols and phosphorus compounds, it is a nutritious hormone-rich substance with a wide spectrum of potential benefits.
The amino acids in royal jelly are of significant interest to nutritionists and may in fact be the primary source of royal jelly benefits. Long associated with the ability to fight ‘free-radicals’ in the body, amino acids form the very basis of our chemical make-up, and are essential to growth and the ability to fight infection and disease. In most cases we cannot create our own amino acids, unless we ingest the 8 essential amino acids through the foods that we eat.
Royal jelly is also rich in nucleic acids, RNA and DNA. Gelatin, another significant component, is one of the precursors of collagen. Collagen is an anti-aging element that keeps the skin looking smooth and youthful. One of its key ingredients, acetylcholine, helps with
mental clarity and improves memory. Its amino acids and gamma globulins aid in strengthening the immune system. It has also been shown to lower total serum cholesterol levels and provide cardiovascular support.
