The black pepper vine is a flowering vine native to India that can reach several metres high. It was introduced to the West by Alexander the Grand and used to barter for silver and gold. To obtain black pepper, the berries are fermented and dried. Black pepper is one of the most common spices in the world. Its odour has energizing effects, and its warm and spicy scent makes it popular in men’s fragrances. The essential oil is obtained by steam distilling the dried fruit.
