History
The origin of the word Thyme comes from the Greek "tumon" meaning "perfume" and refers to the pleasant smell that emanates from the plant. Thyme is a species that perfectly illustrates the concept of chemotype. Indeed, there are several divisions of Thyme according to their chemical composition, giving chemically different essential oils and with varied properties. The different chemical compositions are influenced by the place in which the plant grows, the sunshine, the altitude, the nature of the soil and the air quality.
