Description
Brown flax meal is produced by milling the whole brown flaxseed into a fine meal. Flax seeds, also known as linseeds, are an excellent source of soluble dietary fibre, complete protein, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Uses
Flax meal can be added for extra nutrition to oatmeal, yogurt, salad, soup, chili, meat loaf, muffin, bread, or any other food item where a nutty flavour is appropriate. When altering a baking recipe to contain 20% or more flax meal, the fat should be decreased by the equivalent amount of oil contributed by the flax meal. 1 tablespoon of flax meal and 3 tablespoons of water may serve as a replacement for one egg in baking by binding the other ingredients together.
Storage
Flax meal is rich in oil. Store it in airtight containers, at a cool temperature, away from excessive light and moisture. Storing it in the refrigerator or freezer can extend the shelf life to approximately 6 months.
Allergens
Attention: May contain shell, pit and seed fragments.
