Description
Also known as Broad Bean, Fava beans are large, about 1 ¼ inches long, oval shape, thicker at the bottom end. They are light brown, with a dark line where the ridge is split. Fava beans have a creamy texture with a nutty flavour.
Directions
Rinse 1 cup beans. Pour into boiling water and cover. Soak for 6 hours. Drain and discard soaking water. Add 4 cups fresh water to cook beans. Simmer over low heat until tender, about 40-60 minutes.
Uses
Fava beans are common in Middle Eastern, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese cuisine. They are good in soups and stews, as a side dish, in cold salads, or processed into a hummus-like dip.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry location. Shelf life is approximately 2 years.
